Counseling

Hi There and Welcome!

Thank you for visiting my website and inviting me on your journey toward finding healing and whole heartedness.   The first step in beginning the counseling process can often feel overwhelming and intimidating.  My goal is to meet you where you are by maintaining a nonjudgmental, safe space where you and/or your teen are treated with respect and understanding. I believe that everyone has a story to tell of their victories and defeats, and I am passionate about walking with each client in their story as we work toward freedom and more whole hearted living. I deeply enjoy getting to come alongside of teens and adults as we sort through life changes, depression, anxiety, old wounds, trauma, loss, and grief to find healing, clarity, and free you up to live as your authentic self. I feel honored that you have considered my practice as an option in assisting you on your journey to healing.

Feel free to look around my site and contact me with any questions! Please also know that the beliefs and opinions expressed in my blog are my own and do not come into the counseling room.

  • Types of Therapy

I have worked with a diverse population of clients before. The majority of my training and experience has focused on working with children and adolescents through Play Therapy. Play Therapy is a growth and trauma based therapy using a child's natural expression through play to bring healing. Play Therapy can also help children build self-confidence and communicate better. I am also trained in Splankna, and in the process of becoming a certified practitioner. For more information about Splankna check out their website.

While I am trained in the Family Systems Model and have experience utilizing CBT, TF-CBT, Narrative Therapy, Solutions Focused Therapy, Mindfulness based practices, and Play Therapy, I use an eclectic approach with my clients. Other issues that I have experience working with are ADHD, Anxiety, Depression, Spiritual Issues, Trauma, Grief and Loss, Identity Formation, School Adjustment, and Life Transitions.

  • Rates

My fee for all types of counseling sessions is $130 per clinical hour (typically 50 minutes). If you have difficulty in paying this fee, a reduced fee may be available upon request.

  • First Session

In my opinion, the first session is one of the most important. In our first session, we will go over the practice policies, what to expect from a typical counseling session, and your goals for our time together. Due to my belief that the therapeutic relationship is one of the most significant pieces of counseling, part of the first session will also be used to determine if you feel like I will be a good fit for you as a counselor. Not every counselor is going to be the perfect fit for every client, and I want to make sure that I will be a good fit for you.

Common Questions

Do you take insurance?

Right now, I do not accept insurance. Also, I would suggest checking to see what your mental health benefits are.  Often times, the copay for services can be just as much as my sliding scale fee.

Does what we discuss in session remain confidential?

I believe that confidentiality is one of the most important and fundamental pieces of the therapeutic relationship.  In our first session, we will review confidentiality as it is laid out in my practice policies.

However, state law and professional ethics require therapists to maintain confidentiality except for the following situations:

* Suspected past or present abuse or neglect of children, adults, and elders to the authorities, including Child Protection and law enforcement, based on information provided by the client or collateral sources.

* If the therapist has reason to suspect the client is seriously in danger of harming him/herself or has threatened to harm another person

About Me

I love working with individuals who are seeking healing and hope.  I truly believe I am called to work in the field of healing and feel honored that you will allow me to walk with you or your teen on this journey.  My first three years of practice were spent working with diverse clientele and presenting concerns.  This has been such a wonderful gift because it has allowed me to learn, grow, and develop the ability to work with clients from all different backgrounds.  I became passionate about counseling when I was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes my Senior year in college.  This diagnosis was incredibly life changing, and I had to relearn what healthy, balanced living truly looks like.  This diagnosis also forced me to face my own depressive and anxious tendencies and learn how to manage those in new ways. This experience and others have led me to be passionate about working with people who are having to learn to rebalance their lives and who are trying to process through who they are and what their purpose is. Whether it is a medical condition, trauma, grief, life changes, or past hurts, I would love to walk with you or your teen as you learn to navigate your world in healthy and positive ways.

I am a Christian and do see the world through this lens.  However, I enjoy working with individuals from all faith or non faith backgrounds, and I will not ever make faith the central issue in counseling, unless you would like for it to be brought into our work. I do enjoy working through spiritual issues with clients and with clients who feel wounded by religious institutions.
